Ingredients
2 tbsp | 30 mL
olive oil
2 tbsp | 30 mL
butter
4 large onions, peeled and thinly sliced
1 tsp | 5 mL
caraway seeds
1 pkg | 165 g
Arla® Creamy Havarti Cheese Slices, cut into strips
6 hot dogs or German-style bratwurst
6 slices bacon
6 large hot dog buns, toasted
2 tbsp | 30 mL
coarse yellow mustard
Directions
In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add onions and caraway seeds and sauté until softened, stirring occasionally. Lower heat and continue to cook until brown and caramelized – approximately 30 - 35 minutes. Remove from heat, and allow to cool; cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
Slice each hot dog in half without cutting through; add a strip of Havarti Cheese to each. Wrap tightly with bacon slices and secure with toothpick. Grill or sauté until bacon crisps and cheese begins to melt. Top each toasted bun equally with mustard and onions; top with bacon-wrapped Cheese-filled hot dog.
