Asparagus Cheese Strata

A strata is similar to a bread pudding - in this case it’s savory … and delicious!

Ingredients

2 - 16" French baguette bread, cut into 1" cubes 


200 g thinly sliced prosciutto, cut into 1/4-inch julienne 


1 pkg | 200 g
Arla® Havarti Cheese with Herbs & Spices, shredded 


1 cup | 250 mL
Tre Stelle® Grated Parmesan Cheese 


1/4 cup each | 50 mL
fresh chives and parsley, washed and finely chopped 


1 lb | 454 g
fresh asparagus, tough stem ends snapped off, cut into 2" pieces 


6 large eggs 


3 1/2 cups | 875 mL
milk 


1 tbsp | 15 mL
lemon peel, grated 


1 tsp each | 5 mL
salt & freshly ground black pepper

 

Directions

In a 9" x 13" baking pan that has been buttered or coated with non-stick cooking spray, add half of the bread cubes. Top with half the prosciutto, Havarti Cheese, Parmesan Cheese, herbs and asparagus. Layer remaining bread cubes on top, then layer the remaining prosciutto, Havarti Cheese, Parmesan Cheese, herbs and asparagus. In a medium bowl whisk together eggs, milk, lemon peel, salt, and pepper. Pour evenly over layered ingredients. Cover and chill for an hour or overnight. Bake for 50 minutes in a preheated 350ºF (180ºC) oven. Remove from oven, slice and serve.
